Google is opening its first-ever retail store in New York City this summer.

Customers will be able to purchase "an extensive variety" of products, from "Pixel phones to Nest products, Fitbit devices, Pixelbooks and more," Google said in a press release. Customers will also have the option to schedule a pickup for online orders.

In addition to buying new products, Google says customers will be able to get broken phone screens fixed and learn about troubleshooting from the customer service team, similar to Apple's Genius Bars. The Chelsea store will also feature how-to workshop demonstrations for customers to participate in.

Google didn't specify an exact opening date.

"The Google Store Chelsea will be part of our urban campus in the Chelsea neighborhood, which is home to many of our 11,000+ Google NYC employees," the company said. "Google has been in New York for the last 20 years, and we view the store as a natural extension of our longtime commitment to the city."

Google says the store will comply with local and national health and safety procedures. Customers will be required to wear face masks, sanitize their hands, and remain a healthy social distance from other customers. Google adds that staff members will frequently wipe down the surfaces of the products since they will be available for customers to test out before buying. Capacity will also be limited.

It may be the first permanent retail presence, but it's not Google's first foray into brick-and-mortar. Insider got a sneak peek at the first Google pop-up shop in Manhattan in 2016. The pop-up shop was dressed in a unique and vibrant design, featuring an array of Google products.

"The new Google Store is an important next step in our hardware journey of providing the most helpful experience of Google, wherever and whenever people need it," Google said.
